There is a crystal which upon exposure to sunlight will glow in the dark for hours. This occurs via a highly unusual compound, with the reaction being triggered in part by a rare earth element. This video will discuss how phosphorescence occurs, and how certain ions can substitute other atoms in crystal structures.
