Tried a lower section of one of my usual trout rivers in Upstate New York and was surprised by the amount of warm water action! With water temps too high for trout, the smallmouth bass and fall fish were everywhere and ready to fight. Hard-hitting, rod-bending fun all evening!
Unfortunately, I lost both of my go-to flies—the Golden Delicious (stonefly/bugger hybrid) and a homebrew black woolly bugger—but not before they delivered plenty of action.
