Hercules Destroys DeWALT (AvE got it Wrong)

Hercules Destroys DeWALT (AvE got it Wrong) - I did not want to make this video, I really didn't. I absolutely hate the whole Youtube Drama thing but after the umpteenth skookum fanboy posted "Hercules Sucks, AvE said so!" I just could not keep quiet on this anymore. The Hercules outclasses the DeWALT at every step and I don't know why AvE chose to misrepresent this but he has had a year to do so. There are numerous comments on his video with people pointing out that he was just flatly wrong on a number of issues. And instead of admitting that he was wrong he doubled down with a second video.

I'm sorry but I guess I have an overdeveloped sense of honor/responsibility. If I got it that wrong in a video I'd either post a correction or take the other video down. Probably both. But this video is one of his most popular with over 1.7 Million views. A 15 minute video with that many views would be worth over $5,000. A 46 minute video??? And the bonus to watch time that would give to your channel? The additional subscribers? I guess there are a lot of reasons that someone could use to justify not taking a video like that down.

For those of you who don't want to watch the whole video let me give you some higlights;

1. The MOSFETs are a "fail" due to the heat sink. These are new, very expensive, compared to the MOSFETs used in the DW. They are extremely low heat by comparison and are being used EXACTLY as they are designed to be used. Multiple people have pointed this out and he has simply ignored them. This was not a cost savings move but actually, an upgrade and he simply failed on this one.

2. Brushes. He says that two brushes are a cost savings choice. He said they are tiny brushes. And he complains about the plastic being nylon that will melt at 700F. The brushes are a design choice. You only need 4 brushes if you need them to push that much power into your motor. If you have a more efficient motor you can use fewer brushes. This will also mean you are getting as much, or more, power while using less electricity! Also, your battery will last longer. This is the almost the exact same setup in many Hilti drills. They use almost the exact same two brushes but on the Herc, he calls this a fail but he declares Hilti to be the gold standard for power tools. So which one is it? OH, and lest we forget. The nylon that melts at 700F. Are you drilling in your oven? While it's on? Heck, da Bear here lives in Las Vegas and I've never done work in over 120F. What the frack is his point here? FAIL x3

5. The magnets. He knocks the choice of neodymium magnets, totally ignores that massive yoke it's installed in and then again makes idiotic claims about temperatures. Oh and he says "you get what you pay for" making the veiled complaint that this is another cost savings choice. it's not, it's an upgrade. These magnets and yoke are a good part of the reason why the drill only needs two brushes. These magnets are at least twice as strong as the setup in the DW. They also cost about twice as much. And yes they are more affected by heat and should your drill reach a temp of between 300F and 400F it might fail. Of course, you will be dead long before that. Again, I must advise that you DO NOT work in your oven while it's on. Too much FAIL here to count.

6. "Anemic fan" on the motor. He says that between this fan and the MOSFETs there are now two major "Fail" points due to lack of heat control. However, this drill, because it uses less power also operates at a lower temperature. He knows this of course... right? I mean he is the expert here telling us how it is so I have to ask... why does he make statements like this? He must know this as these are just basic design concepts and he is here telling us he is the expert on how this equipment is built right? I don't want to say he is lying to us but I'm at a loss here. He is either lying about the equipment or about his level of knowledge. SMH.

Sadly the real issue is that AvE seems to suffer from a bad case of Engineerits. That is the inability to access your own skill level and understand when you are in over your head. I've seen this countless time when you have someone in your group who says they know what they are doing because their ego won't let them admit they need help. Best case is that it can delay or even tank your project. Worst case, people can get hurt or even killed because they got bad advice.

Maybe he had a bad day or maybe it the marketing BS set him up. Either way there is just no excuse for flubbing it THIS BADLY. I'm sorry AvE, but someone had to set the record straight.
