Unus Annus - I Was Here [Tribute]

It’s weird to describe a channel like Unus Annus. I don’t want to make it seem like “you had to be there” to understand, because that was not the point of it all.

But still, in some weird way, you had to be there. To witness how amazing it was, how creative it was, and, let’s be real, how straight up INSANE it was.

I started this video on the morning of the final day of Unus Annus. The day the channel would be deleted. It was some weird idea that came to me when I woke up, already dreading the clock running out of time, so I decided “why not?” Why should I not at least attempt to make something to remember this channel (not that I will forget it any time soon).

I didn’t manage to watch the entire livestream because of the time difference, but that’s okay. It wasn’t the point to be there for every single second of it. It would have been nice, yes, but I’m okay with nothing having seen all of it. When I tuned in for the final hours of the channel, in all honesty, I bawled my eyes out. It was weird saying goodbye and I didn’t want it to end.

During the stream, the tags #WeWereHere and #IWasHere started trending (I missed these moments, but heard about it afterwards) and that combined with the title of this song… I knew I had to finish this video. It just made sense. It would be some kind of tribute, though, again, it is impossible to explain Unus Annus in only a few minutes of footage. If I could, I would’ve included every moment of their year, but again, that’s not the point.

It was weird saying goodbye and seeing it end, but in some way, after it was all over, it was better. You dread a certain moment but when that moment finally arrives and it’s gone, it’s better. The dread is gone and you can start to move on, keeping the memories.

I’m not sure why I went on a bit of a rant here, but oh well.

The final thing I want to say is to the team behind Unus Annus.
To Ethan, Mark, Amy, Evan, all the editors, all the guests, and just everyone who was remotely involved in making this channel what it was.

Thank you for making this year more bearable. For giving me, and many others, something to look forward to every single day of the year. For making us laugh. For making us frown at whatever weird thing you guys came up with. For making us cry.
