Custom Tiny Home Design & Features
This 20 ft long by 8.5 ft wide by 13.5 ft tall tiny home maximizes every inch of space. Allison shares her philosophy behind the unique floor plan, which prioritizes a large, welcoming living area over a spacious bathroom.

Layout & Living Space: The main floor features a logical flow from the living room to the kitchen and then the bath. The generous living space includes a comfortable easy chair, guest sleeping options, and pull-out stairs leading to the loft.

Reclaimed Treasures: Discover the stories behind the repurposed materials, including beautiful $60 salvaged wood now adorning the ceiling—one of Allison's favorite features. The entire build centered around these unique finds, adding immense character.

Kitchen & Storage Solutions: See the highly efficient kitchen, which boasts more counter space than her previous one-bedroom apartment! It features a 20-inch propane Summit stove, a washer/dryer combo (drying outside is preferred!), deep sink, and thoughtful storage like pull-out shelves, a spice rack on the door, and open shelving for dishes.

Bathroom: A compact, efficient space featuring a Nature's Head composting toilet, a galvanized tub, and a creative, $5 hula hoop shower curtain hack.

Loft Bedroom: A cozy double bed loft space with excellent cross-breeze ventilation and built-in clothes storage. Egress windows on both sides ensure safety. The pull-out couch downstairs serves as a future-proof plan for a main-floor bedroom if needed.

Outdoor Bonus Space: A lovely enclosed porch built with free glass doors, offering extra storage for a freezer, and access to a beautiful garden.

Allison details her path to the tiny life: finding inspiration online after a divorce, needing a solution to high rent, and opting to self-build to keep costs low and maximize customization.

The construction took 18 months and cost between $50,000 and $60,000 (including hired professionals for safety-critical tasks like plumbing and electrical). Crucially, she was debt-free upon completion.
