We were informed by the awesome Cara, from the 'Open Minded Wonderer' YouTube channel, English Heritage were advertising tickets to a free guided tour of the archeological dig taking place at Arthur's Stone in Herefordshire, considered to be one of the most significant prehistoric monuments in the country. We jumped at the chance to meet her in person and see students and professors from the University of Manchester and University of Cardiff, unearth the secrets of this 5000 year old Neolithic burial mound.
We were also winners of Cara's competition so this gave us the perfect opportunity to pick up our prize, a map of ancient Britain!
Our tour guide, Ian, was so knowledgeable and the archeologists were very open to chatting with us, we learnt so much, not just about the immediate site and its' history but also about the Neolithic era and the wider landscape.
The excavations will continue until the end of July so if you are able, please go and check out it out, it is a rare opportunity and absolutely fascinating!
