They say that the best way to find the correct interpretation of a piece is to listen to the composer's own rendition & here is an authentic recording dating back to the beginning of accordion history. Pietro is considered one of the greatest and most influential accordionists of the first half of the 20th century. Born in Salto Canavese, near Turin, he emigrated to the US in 1907, and in 1908 began playing the chromatic accordion professionally in a bar in Seattle Washington. Pietro & his older brother Guido were largely responsible for changing accordion design from the chromatic "button-keyboard" design to "piano-type keyboard" thus earning him the title "Daddy of the Accordion." Pietro became a celebrity on the vaudeville circuit starting in 1912. He went on to earn over $400 a week - a phenomenal income for those days! Pietro, during his career in 1912 recorded a total of 147 pieces on the Victor & Decca labels, many of which are featured on this set of CDs compiled by "Bella Musica" of Rome, Italy.
