India Ends Transhipment Facility to Bangladesh | India Today Global

India has officially withdrawn the transhipment facility extended to Bangladesh since 2020. The decision, effective from April 8, 2025, comes in light of mounting logistical challenges. According to the MEA spokesperson, the facility had begun causing significant congestion at Indian ports and airports. These delays led to higher operational costs and adversely impacted India’s own export efficiency. However, India clarified that this move does not affect Bangladesh's exports to Nepal and Bhutan via Indian territory. This distinction is crucial in maintaining regional trade flows. The decision is seen as a step towards optimizing India's trade infrastructure. Bangladesh and its trade partners will now have to adjust to the new logistical dynamics.
