Fix problem with Steel-Line Garage door partially opening then stopping RD1 12MZ and BOSS BRD1

My Steel-Line garage door (Model RD1 12MZ Australia, also Boss BRD1 may have same issue) recently started failing to open and would stop after raising a few inches, initially I could press the button again and it would open fully but eventually it failed completely.
The mechanism appeared ok so it seemed to be related to the controller box itself. I removed it from the wall by undoing both power cables and sliding it upwards off it's hanging screws. After opening the unit I discovered an obviously failed/bulging 1000uF 50V capacitor so I ordered an equivalent capacitor from ebay for a few dollars and then replaced with a soldering iron. My unit was manufactured and installed around 2007-08 so I suspect that other units will also be starting to fail around this time given that capacitors generally have a limited life span. This video may help in the event of similar symptoms and may also help with other models.
Note: Repairs should be attempted by qualified repairers only. Capacitors can hold charge even when removed from power and the larger voltage capacitors can give a nasty shock so it is best to discharge them first to be safe, see https://www.wikihow.com/Discharge-a-C...
