Luigi Colani (born Lutz Colani 2 August 1928 - 16 September 2019) was a German industrial designer with an expansive portfolio. He first gained recognition in the 1950s for his creative car designs with companies like Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Volkswagen and BMW. His signature style also extended to household items such as ballpoint pens and television sets as well as uniforms, trucks and entire kitchens. In addition, the Pegasus piano from Schimmel is just one of many designs that demonstrate Colani's passion for incorporating innovative technological features into his work. Although often overlooked by mainstream industrial design experts, he still contributed significantly to the field with his numerous awards and ambitious projects.
