Making a Mythical Banshee from Avatar Needle Felting Tutorial

How to make a Mountain Banshee, a dragon-like creature from the Avatar movies with Needle Felting, wire armature, and acrylic paints.

With the next Avatar movie 'Fire & Ash' being released this year, I decided to make a Banshee (or an Ikran if you speak Na'vi). In this video, I'll show you how to build a wire armature to make the Banshee poseable, how to make sturdy felted wings, and take a look at using acrylic paints on felted wool. They're quite tricky to make, but felters who are at an advanced level will find this a fun challenge.

I had previously made a video and Banshee for the release of 'Way of Water' a couple of years ago. The video quality was poor, so I decided that it was time to have another go ahead of the next movie. This time, the video is much better quality and has a description of what I'm doing on screen.

Materials used:
Merino wool (Colouring)
Core wool (Base)
Craft Wire
Acrylic Glue
Acrylic paint
Floral tape (Pull and wrap around wires for a sticky coat for the wool to stick to. A lot less messy than glue!)
Equipment:
Felting needles (various gauges)
Felting mat
Craft Iron
Greaseproof paper (Yeah, I know. In the video, I spelt grease 'Greece' as in the country. I must have been half asleep!)

What is Needle Felting?
Wool can be sculpted into various shapes and forms by using special grooved needles. These 'wool shapes' can then be used to make sculptures of different things, e.g., animals, people, objects, food, etc. I enjoy making monsters, dragons, and other various creatures. It can be a therapeutic craft as long as you don't jab the needle into your finger! My channel has some simple tutorial videos that you can try out!
