This instructional video offers us a look into the use of massage therapy at the hospitals in the former Soviet Union. More specifically, it covers a part of massage therapy protocol for Cerebral Palsy Syndrome (CPS). The massage therapist in this video was gracious enough to allow us to film him during one of his sessions in the Department of Neurology at the Regional Children's Hospital.
His patient had Grade 2 of the spastic form of CPS. Among other symptoms, he had a so-called “scissors gait” because both the flexors and adductors were mostly affected.
One of the main goals of this video is to demonstrate how to effectively manipulate the brain's response to your work, while switching between activating sympathetic and parasympathetic system, in order to address both spastic and weak skeletal muscles.
Please, pay attention to the therapist's hands staying loose during this massage application. It is equally important for Medical and Sports Massage practitioners.
