In this video, I discuss the difference between the timing marks on the harmonic balancer on a 68 and earlier small block Chevy versus a 69 and later small block Chevy.
The bottom line is, if your keyway on your harmonic balancer is not directly in line with the timing mark on the balancer, it’s not correctly marked for 1968 and older engines/crankshafts.
