A Tribute to Ruckzuck

To Ruckzuck, Where do I even begin? I saw you guys on a whim because of a Flaming Lips fan group where yall were promoting your first tour. I went to the show without having heard a note of your music. I went just based off of our mutual interests (I remember the Lips were playing with Miley on SNL that night). I was blown away. While the set reeked of being novices on the road, the songs were great. As a group you always made sure you were putting on a real show, not just playing a set. A little TV playing old VHS tapes and that signature green light is all it took to hook me. I loved seeing you guys any time you came through.

Fast Forward to 2017. You came through and I heard Jazuwuz for the first time. That's when it hit me. I was seeing colors to your music, visualizing every note, every drum fill, every solo in that song. That's what made me want to do lights for you. It started with small effects lights and a fog machine and evolved into something bigger. I took them out on the road with you and kept expanding afterward. You never got to see my final setup. I all but gave up on lights after the band broke up. Nobody else inspired me like you guys did. As small as your audience was, you still made an impact on peoples lives and it should be recognized.

These years were some of the best of my life and Ruckzuck's music will be the soundtrack to accompany many of the memories I made during that time. I'm humbled I was ever given a chance to bring my lights out on the road with you. Even if we made no money, it was an experience I'll never forget.
