It is one of the largest wells in the ancient world, dating back to the mid-sixth century BC. It was constructed during the Babylonian age in Taima. In the 5th century AD, Taima was completely buried for decades until it was reconstructed by Sulaiman Al-Ghunaim. In 1373 AH, king Saud visited Taima and ordered the installation of four modern pumps to increase the amount of water, so the agricultural area expended and every farmer had a well running within his farm. With the use of modern pumps, people no longer needed to pump well water by conventional means Over time, the top architectural elements of the well and the water withdrawal tools began to disappear, parts of the inner walls of the well began to collapse. Then , his Royal Highness Prince Fahd Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's directed yo restore the well to its original state at his own expense, making the well one of the architectural and historical landmarks in the region.
