In the historic town of San Nicolas, pottery—or alfareria—is more than a craft; it’s a way of life. Among its finest artisans are Kulas and Lasing, a young couple whose love for each other is as strong as their passion for pottery. Their exquisite bangas sell out quickly, with the community eagerly awaiting each new creation.

One day, a wealthy merchant places a large order, filling them with excitement. They begin the intricate Damili process—digging clay (panagkali), kneading (panaglali), molding (panagbibir and panagpitpit), and finally, kindling and drying (panaggebba). Every piece is shaped with care and devotion.

But just as they near completion, the merchant returns with devastating news—the order is canceled. Their hard work, once destined for eager buyers, now sits unsold. Yet, even in disappointment, Kulas and Lasing know that true artistry isn’t defined by profit, but by the love and perseverance poured into every creation. [A]
