Bakdaljae Pass 박달재

Bakdaljae is a pass 453 meters above sea level and 500 meters long. There has been a long road from Jecheon to Seoul, but the mountain peaks, large and small, surround the area, creating a rugged valley. It is famous for the place where General Kim Ch'u-ryeol won the victory by taking advantage of the rugged terrain when the Geo-Ran army invaded with 100,000 troops in July 1217.
박달재는 해발 453m, 길이 500m인 고개이다. 예로부터 제천에서 서울에 이르는 관행길이 나 있으나, 첩첩산중으로 크고 작은 연봉이 4면을 에워싸고 있어 험준한 계곡을 이룬다. 이곳은 1217년 7월 거란군이 10만 대군으로 침공해 왔을 때 김취려 장군이 험준한 지형을 이용하여 전공을 세운 전승지로 유명하다.
