How do you know whether someone's actions are platonic vs. romantic? As a demiromantic person, I often find it hard to tell (and that's the case for many other gray aros too). So join me for a look at some behaviors that are typically seen as romantic but can also be platonic — dates, gifts, gestures, and touch — and a discussion on how the difference boils down to romantic intent.
A few notes...
-The Reddit comment I mentioned at 1:51 is a response to this thread on r/aromantic: / do_you_think_intimate_touch_is_romantic
-The episode of Doug I mentioned at 3:21 is called "Doug & Patti Sittin' in a Tree" from season 4.
-The bento gesture I mentioned at 5:16 is a trope in a lot of romantic anime and manga, and you can read more about that and other romantic tropes here: https://aminoapps.com/c/anime/page/bl...
-The show Queer as Folk that I mentioned at 8:58 aired on Showtime from 2000–2005.
If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you. Most social media algorithms are notoriously unfriendly to queer content, so if you could please like, subscribe, and share this video with anyone who would be interested, I would super appreciate it. Happy Aromantic Awareness Week! :)
