A Discovery for Patients with Acromegaly; A Potentially Cancer Free Future

Dr. Kopchick discovered a compound, a Growth Hormone Receptor Antagonist, that has been approved by the U.S. FDA and worldwide regulatory agencies for the treatment of patients with acromegaly. This discovery originated in Kopchick’s laboratory, involving studies with Growth Hormone (GH) using a structure/function approach. This drug (Somavert) is already helping countless patients with acromegaly, and Kopchick’s hope is that it could be used to help an even larger patient population. Recent testing in the laboratory has revealed that the Growth Hormone Receptor Antagonist is potent in inhibiting the growth of different types of cancers.
