In this Walk & Talk episode, Daniel Du interviews Dr. Alexander Chow about the complex relationship between Christianity and Chinese identity. Chow reflects on his personal journey, growing up in a non-Christian home, and how wrestling with faith and cultural identity led him to explore whether Christianity is inherently foreign or even imperialistic. He discusses the long and diverse history of Christianity in China—dating back to the 7th century—and highlights its transnational, plural expressions shaped by centuries of political and cultural change. Dr. Alexander Chow is Senior Lecturer in Theology and World Christianity at the University of Edinburgh and co-director of the Centre for the Study of World Christianity. He holds degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary, Regent College, and the University of Birmingham, and is the author or editor of five books, including Chinese Public Theology and Ecclesial Diversity in Chinese Christianity.
