Welcome to my Sealing and Painting tutorial for the javelin from The Suicide Squad.
This tutorial will cover: -
1. Priming with Flexbond
2. Painting foam to look like mildly-worn leather
3. The steps required to create a chrome effect with Alclad airbrush paints
4. Adding gold candy colour to change chrome silver to chrome gold
Firstly my advice is to give yourself over a week to do this, there is a lot of layers that need decent drying time. My main rule of thumb is to do all the coats with the section I was working on on the same day within the required time then let that section dry fully over the next 24 hours. Perhaps not 100% necessary but the whole process went smoothly for me doing it this way. I used axle stands to keep the javelin raised off the table so this meant I was restricted at doing too many sections at once.
If you haven't used an airbrush before you do need to get the hang of it first, especially with cleaning it. If the airbrush is free from blockages it should spray like a dream! My airbrush use has improved rapidly since I first used mine. Pay attention to the settings required or the result might not be effective.

Safety Information: -
Please make sure you are safe if carrying out any of the steps in the video. For airbrushing there is overspray which can be easily inhaled. Ensure you protect your airways and use in a well-ventilated area. This javelin is 2.3m long so spraying in a spray booth wasn't an option for me so you will need to protect your surroundings somewhat. For superglue, read and follow the instructions.
Safety comes first always.
I also want to thank Gordon Tarpley who gave me very sound advice for these painting techniques. Please check out Gordon's work here / gordontarpley
