​As the sun emerges, the couple commences their daily struggle. Immediately, they confront the brutal challenge of the frost. The water tank pipes are seized by ice, cutting off their drinking supply until the thaw. Ayub inspects the reservoirs, where the water is frozen solid; the ice is now so thick that it easily supports his full weight, allowing him to walk freely across the surface.
​Adapting to the harsh conditions, Ayub begins harvesting the surrounding snow to fill the basin.
