James McCloughan of the U.S. Army is awarded the Medal Of Honor for "conspicuous gallantry during the Vietnam War." Donald Trump made the award in the East Room of the White House.
McCloughan received the Medal of Honor for actions he took over the course of 48 hours in close combat fighting in Vietnam in 1969.against enemy forces in Vietnam in 1969.
McCloughan, who was 23 at the time, was serving as a private first class combat medic after being drafted. He voluntarily risked his life on nine separate occasions to rescue wounded and disoriented comrades. The citation credited James McCloughan with saving the lives of 10 members of his company.
