Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Najib Razak has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for multiple counts of power abuse and money laundering linked to the 1MDB scandal.
Najib’s lawyer, Mohamad Shafee Abdullah, called the verdict a “perfect result for the prosecution” but vowed to file an appeal by Monday, saying the team is disappointed but not surprised by the court’s decision.
Najib, 72, has previously been convicted and served a sentence for misappropriating funds from the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund. This latest sentence will run concurrently with his current term, keeping him in prison until at least 2028.
