CHO Stage Dharna Protest at Fatehabad CHC Over Pending Salaries and Allowances

Community Health Officers (CHOs) staged a dharna protest at the Fatehabad Community Health Centre (CHC) on Friday, demanding their pending honorarium, annual salary increments, allowances, and other dues. The protest was led by All India Community Health Officer District President, Jaikumar.

Speaking during the protest, District President Jaikumar said that on one hand, the government calls CHOs the backbone of rural healthcare, but on the other hand, they are continuously being discriminated against. “Under the National Health Mission (NHM), many cadres are working, but CHOs are being denied their rightful payments. The government issues circulars before every festival to ensure payment of honorarium to NHM workers, but in Agra district, CHOs have not received any festival payments — whether Ram Navami, Dussehra, or Karva Chauth,” he alleged.

He added that for the last two-three sessions, annual increments, loyalty bonus, performance-based incentives, communication allowance, and travel allowance have all been withheld. As a result, CHOs are struggling for survival, with many unable to pay for groceries, house rent, or their children’s school fees.

The CHO employees had earlier sent letters to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Agra on August 28 and September 3 through the CHC superintendent, but no action was taken. Frustrated with the inaction, they began the dharna protest at Fatehabad CHC. The officers announced that the protest would continue on Saturday, and from Monday onwards, they would sit on dharna outside the CMO’s office in Agra.

Meanwhile, Agra CMO Arun Srivastava said that due to the introduction of new software, there have been delays in financial processing. He criticized the dharna and work boycott, stating that those who refuse to work will not be paid for those days.

Prominent CHOs present in the protest included Jaikumar, Radhakrishnan Raghav, Birendra Gurjar, Pradeep Tyagi, Hansraj Jakhar, Hansraj Kumawat, Yashwant, Sushil, Vishnu, Ved Prakash, Lokesh, Adil, Ramzan, Mukesh, Sunil, among others.
