Hi Guys,

Welcome to our deep dive into Tughlaqabad Fort – Delhi’s largest, most mysterious, and historically significant fortress. Built in 1321 AD by Sultan Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, the founder of the Tughlaq dynasty, this grand fort was designed to be the capital of the empire. Sprawling across 6.5 km of massive stone walls, the fort once symbolized the power and ambition of the Tughlaqs.

But just six years later, this mighty capital was mysteriously abandoned. Why? The answer lies in a legendary curse by the famous Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, who, angered by the Sultan, is believed to have cursed the fort with the words: “Ya rahe ujjar, ya base gujjar” – “May it remain desolate, or may it be settled only by herdsmen.”

Even today, as you walk through its hauntingly beautiful ruins, you can feel the echoes of history, mystery, and legend surrounding this place.

🏰 History of Tughlaqabad Fort
Constructed in 1321 by Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq.
Served as a strong defense against Mongol invasions.
Built with thick sloping stone walls, circular bastions, and fortified gates.

Abandoned around 1327 after the sudden death of Ghiyasuddin and the rise of his son Muhammad bin Tughlaq.

Legend connects its downfall to the curse of Nizamuddin Auliya.

🏛️ Architecture & Layout

Tughlaqabad Fort showcases classic Indo-Islamic military architecture, featuring:
13 entry gates (most in ruins today).
Massive ramparts & battlements that still stand strong.
Royal palaces, underground passages, and tombs.

The striking Mausoleum of Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, built in red sandstone and marble, surrounded by water in its original form.

This fort was not just a military structure but also a complete fortified city, with palaces, houses, and even water reservoirs.

👻 The Curse & Haunted Stories
The most popular legend around Tughlaqabad Fort is its curse. Nizamuddin Auliya, upset with Sultan Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, cursed the fort’s prosperity. Many locals believe this curse still affects the fort, and some even call it one of the most haunted places in Delhi.

At night, visitors often feel an eerie silence, making the fort both mysterious and thrilling for explorers.
