The Battle of Mactan :
In April 1521 Magellan, along with his Spanish and indigenous allies, attempted to subjugate Lapu-Lapu and his people on Mactan Island. Lapu-Lapu and his warriors fiercely defended their land, resulting in Magellan's death and the defeat of the Spanish forces.
National Hero :
Lapu-Lapu's bravery and defiance of Spanish colonization have solidified his status as a national hero of the Philippines.
