Sidarian Pearl had an incredible year and few would begrudge the brilliant daughter of Vans Escalade and Rockburst Pearl her victory in the Gain Dog Foods Christmas Oaks.
The winner of the Puppy Oaks had reached the finals of the Oaks and Derby without success and the Graham Holland trained star certainly deserved her time in the spotlight.
She grabbed this contest by the scruff of the neck. Making a flying start from trap three, the Sidarian Syndicate owned bitch led the field into the turn. Airmount Tess initially gave chase, but it was Ballymac Belle that put up most resistance. She moved second entering the back straight and closed on Sidarian pearl to the third turn, but at this point the pace-setter shut the door.
That put the result beyond any doubt. Airmount Tess flew home, but Sidarian Pearl was never going to surrender her lead and she ran out a brilliant three length winner in a superb 28.25. Ballinakil Clare stayed on well to grab third, two lengths further adrift.
