Metal Slug Tactics is a nostalgia-filled #retro romp re-work of a classic #SNK #arcade franchise. #metalslugtactics is an all-new, turn-based tactical game that amps up the normal #turnbased #gameplay with momentum-based mechanics and ability combos. This combination allows the gameplay to retain the fast and frantic feel of the #neogeo coin-op classic.

A few problems hold the game back from greatness, however. While the game uses the classic Metal Slug heroes, enemies, and locales of the original games, the brightened-up anime aesthetic is distinctly different from its darker arcade origins. The soundtrack also falls flat and doesn't feel as though it taps into the breadth of the musical charm of the franchise. Above all, however, is the mobile game style presentation and lackluster rogue-lite elements that add to the slot machine-esque, free-to-play feel.

While Metal Slug Tactics stands on its own with fun mechanics that make the turn-based combat snappy and explosive, it doesn't take full advantage of the charm of the IP and underwhelming #roguelite offerings cheapen the overall package.
