2023 MG5: Electric estate car gets smartened up with facelift

Following years in the automotive doldrums, the MG brand has been enjoying something of a resurgence in recent years thanks to its early adoption of electric car technology. Take the MG5 as an example. On the face of it, it's quite a niche offering. It's a small estate car with and all-electric drivetrain, so there's not an awful lot else like it on the market. However, that hasn't stopped it from becoming one of the UK's most popular electric vehicles.

Earlier this year, the car was given a new battery that increased its official WLTP range to 249 miles (think more like 180 to 220 in the real world), but now, the company is following that up with a more extensive facelift for next year. The styling has been made more modern inside and out, the interior quality has improved, and there's a new infotainment system to replace the clunky, confusing effort in the old car. Things that remain the same, meanwhile, are the car's comfortable, relaxed driving manners and large 479-litre boot.

Prices will go up with the facelift, ranging from around £31,000 to around £34,000, but that still represents very strong value compared with the competition, especially when you factor in the generous amounts of standard equipment provided.
