The official festival dates in 2025 are 1 to 30 April, but depending on the weather and the year, you may be able to see the tulips bloom from late March to the first few weeks of May.

The Netherlands might be the most famous place for tulips, but these flowers were actually first cultivated by the Turks. It was from right here in Istanbul where the rest of Europe was introduced to tulips by the Ottoman Empire. Commercial Turkish tulip cultivation began during the Ottoman Empire and the popularity of the flowers increased particularly during the reign of Sultan Ahmet III in the 18th Century. Under the Sultan, there were many tulip festivals and beautiful imperial tulip gardens.

Tulip motifs were widely used on carpets, tiles, weapons, ceramics, mosques and fabrics that can still be seen around Istanbul and the rest of Turkey. This age known as Lale Devri (the Tulip Era) was actually the wealthiest period of the Ottoman Empire.

The other places you can find out Tulips Festivals in istanbul are; Gulhane Park and Sultanahmet Square in old city area, Emirgan Park in Sariyer district and Hidiv palace in Beykoz district.
