Mike Krause is a Berklee College of Music alumnus, multi-instrumentalist, session guitarist, sideman, music educator & instructor/co-owner of Cary Guitar Lessons in Cary, NC. A native of Philadelphia who came up through the city’s Settlement Music School system, Krause has been an established performer and teacher for over four decades. His skills and teaching modalities cover a wide array of musical styles including Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country/Roots Music, R&B, Fingerstyle and Introductory Classical along with the techniques of flat picking, finger picking and hybrid picking, improvisation, music theory, reading & ear training. He is currently available for guitar instruction both in person and online via Zoom, FaceTime and other platforms (please inquire). Krause has performed as a sideman in a wide array of contexts including multiple appearances at SXSW in Austin, TX, the International Country Music Festival in Zurich, Switzerland and the Stone Free Music Festival in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. As a session guitarist Krause has recorded on over twenty albums for artists including Grammy nominee Tift Merritt, Caitlin Cary, Thad Cockrell and Tres Chicas among others and appears in the book North Carolina Musicians: Photographs and Conversations by Daniel Coston.

His group Mike Krause & The Third Expression have been featured on North Carolina Public Radio’s “The State of Things” and released ‘Instrumental Americana’, an album of Mike Krause composed, arranged and produced original compositions, in 2024. Featuring Dan Davis (drums), E. Scott Warren (bass) and John Neff (Mike Mill’s ‘R.E.M. Explored’, The Bad Ends (w/R.E.M.’s Bill Berry), Booker T. Jones (on the Grammy winning album ‘Potato Hole’ also featuring Neil Young), Bloodkin, Drive-By Truckers, Japancakes, etc) on pedal steel, the album is available for listening here:
