This video explains in detail the KCET Choice Entry process for 2025, whether students can alter or delete their college options after the first round, and how the KCET First Round Result works. KCET, the Karnataka Common Entrance Test, is an important step for students aiming to get admission into professional courses like engineering, agriculture, veterinary, pharmacy, and others. After results are declared, students are invited by KEA, the Karnataka Examinations Authority, to participate in the choice entry and seat allotment process.
During the choice entry window, students have to select the colleges and courses they prefer in a particular order. This preference list is crucial because the seat allotment is based on a combination of the student's KCET rank, category, seat availability, and the order in which they’ve prioritized their choices. Many students are confused about whether they can make changes to their preferences after the first round of results is declared. The answer is that once the first round result is announced, the choices that were submitted are locked for that round and cannot be changed. That means you cannot edit, delete, or reorder your college and course options after the result of the first round has been published.
After the first round of KCET seat allotment, KEA gives every candidate four options to choose from. Based on the option selected, further actions will be taken. The first option is to accept the seat and confirm it. In this case, the student has to pay the fees and download the admission order. By doing this, the student exits the counselling process and will not be considered for any further rounds. The second option is to accept the allotted seat but still participate in the second round in case a better option is available. In this case, the student must pay the fees for the allotted seat and wait for the second round. If a better seat is allotted in the second round, the earlier allotment is automatically cancelled. The third option is to reject the allotted seat and re-enter fresh preferences in the next round. This is the only option through which students can delete or edit their college and course options. This is important for those who are not happy with the first allotment and want to improve their chances in the next round. The fourth option is to reject the seat and quit the counselling process altogether.
So, if a student wants to change their choices, they must select option three. This allows them to re-enter new preferences when the second round choice entry window opens. This is the only point in the process where choices can be edited or deleted. Those who select option one or option two cannot make changes to their preference list for the second round. In option two, though the student remains in the counselling process, the same locked choices from the first round are used. Hence, no modifications are allowed after the first round unless the student has selected option three and is entering a fresh set of preferences for the next round.
When students check their first round result, they will either see that a seat has been allotted or not allotted. If no seat is allotted, the student automatically becomes eligible for the second round. If a seat is allotted, they must choose one of the four options as explained above. Students must also note that failing to make a choice or pay the fees within the given deadline will result in cancellation of the seat and exclusion from further rounds.
Many students also wonder what they should do if they are not satisfied with their allotted college in the first round. In most cases, it is advisable to go with option two, which allows students to keep their current seat while still being considered for a better one. This is a safer option than outright rejection, especially if the student's rank is not very high. Another common concern is about whether mock allotment results can be used to predict the actual allotment. The mock allotment is only a trial to show students how their preferences might work. It helps students adjust their order of choices before the actual locking is done. But once the real choice entry is submitted and locked, it becomes final for that round.
In the video, we also explain how to log into the KEA portal, enter and prioritize choices, save and lock them, and how to pay fees after allotment. Students should be careful while selecting colleges. It’s important to have a good mix of dream, realistic, and backup options based on last year’s cut-offs. Checking previous years’ closing ranks helps students get an idea of what colleges they can expect. After the first round, KEA will also release college-wise cutoffs which can be useful in second round planning.
