Cathay Pacific First Class 777-300ER New York JFK to Hong Kong CX841

A beautiful 10am departure and an even better landing with views of Shenzhen, Macau and Victoria Harbor. Check-in was odd in that the first class line was occupied by group travelers instead and I was directed to the business check-in line after about 10 minutes. The lounge was British Airways Galleries Lounge. For the morning flight, there were only cereals and fruits. Alcohol was available too but oddly no hot food was offered. Overall, not an impressive lounge.

Onboard waiting for me was the excellent Cathay Pacific seat in a 1-1-1 configuration and an extremely lovely FA, who took several selfies with me. The crew took excellent care of me, and at one point they apologized for not having an appropriate first class cup for coffee and having to give me the smaller business class cup instead.
This crew encouraged me to take pictures and try all the menu had to offer. Each time I woke up to use the bathroom, they were super proactive and would come by and ask me if I needed anything to eat or drink. They were always professional and approachable. Everything was done with a smile. Food wise, I didn't enjoy the main course as it was simply smothered in sauce. All the other courses were very delicious and beautifully presented. For some reason, I never had luck with the main course on Cathay. Another strange thing with Cathay is their rather spartan amenity kit. It is functional but rather empty compared to JAL's stuffed first class amenity kit. The female version has an extra bottle of toner but otherwise it is the same as the male kit.

Overall an excellent flight onboard with average ground service.
