Based on the story of the same name by B. Bedny. Tosya Kislitsyna comes to the northern logging - a graduate of the Simferopol Culinary School, an orphan, just a girl, smart, a real comrade. At the very first dances, she beats off the local idol, the best foreman Ilya Kovrigin, and their love-struggle begins, in the best traditions of Soviet lyrical comedies.

The comedy was shown for the first time in March 1962 in the Central House of Culture. Everyone came to the premiere except Inna Makarova. She was offended that the final scene of her separation from her fiancé was removed. The film was immediately liked by viewers and even critics. But the high authorities considered that the comedy was too domestic and too small for the Soviet screen, so the film was assigned a third distribution category.
The film was a success abroad. Received a prize at the Edinburgh Film Festival and a prize at the Mar del Plata Film Festival. Foreign newspapers called Rumyantseva “Charlie Chaplin in a skirt,” and Italians called her “Russian Juliet Masina.”
