If you are looking for vacation, day trip, staycation, road trip ideas in Scotland, look no further! As part of my work I get to drive through some of the most outstanding scenery on some of Scotland's best and most scenic roads which I would like to share with you.
First, we pass through the Trossachs, Loch Lubnaig, Loch Earn, and onwards into the Scottish Highlands. On joining the A82 we continue past Crianlarich, Tyndrum Bridge of Orchy.
Next we climb upwards to the Rannoch moor summit and onwards into the majestic Glencoe, scene of the famous “Massacre of Glencoe” between the Campbell and MacDonald clans. The glen also provided a back drop for films such as Braveheart, Rob Roy, Highlander and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban. The James Bond film Skyfall used the A82 itself heading towards Glen Etive. From the glen itself, you drop down into the villages of Glencoe and Ballachulish, the later being known for the slate mined locally and sent all over the world.
The A82 continues to Fort William, following the shoreline of Loch Linnhe, passing Corran Ferry and Seal Rock, where seals can be spotted basking on the rock.
Fort William is at the head of the loch and is a bustling town with many visitor attractions – West Highland Museum, with its large collection of Jacobite artifacts, whisky-tasting at the distillery, the Jacobite Steam Train and the Nevis Range cable car.
Taking the A830, known as the Road to the Isles, the best view of Ben Nevis can be seen from Corpach Basin at the western end of the Caledonian Canal.
Continuing along Loch Eil on the A830, you arrive at Glenfinnan, scene of the Raising of Jacobite Standard in 1745, after the arrival of Bonnie Prince Charlie on Scottish soil. It is now more famous for the railway viaduct in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, where Harry and Ron try to catch up with the Hogwarts Express in a flying Ford Anglia!
The Glencoe and Beyond! series of clips is as follows:
1. Stirling to Doune,
2. Doune to Callander,
3. Callander to Loch Lubnaig,
4. Loch Lubnaig towards Lochearnhead,
