Ongoing Certification Issues: What Is Toyota Doing About It? | Toyota Times News

Since 2022, the Toyota Group has experienced a series of certification issues. To prevent recurrence, Chairman Akio Toyoda established Akio Toyoda’s Juku TPS Jishuken for Certification Work, with kaizen teams selected by each Group company.

Early lessons from the TPS Jishuken included that to apply for certification for one model requires 1,300 pages of paperwork, that pressure to stick to the schedule piles up on the certification genba, and that there is anxiety about being able to perform the test correctly in one try due to the extreme pressure.

On this episode of Toyota Times News, we report from the genba on how the four Group companies, Toyota Motor Corporation, Daihatsu Motor, Hino Motors, and Toyota Industries Corporation, are going beyond group boundaries and titles to tackle issues.
