Black Sabbath Heaven and Hell Tony Iommi Guitar Solo with TAB

Black Sabbath were suffering from creative, Financial and personal burnout in the late 70’s. The last two albums the band made with Ozzy, called Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die, were a little stylistically confusing. Technical Ectasy saw the band going in a more classic Rock n Roll direction and Never Say Die was more of a Jazz Fusion sounding album. Even though both albums had great moments on them, they clearly didn’t stand up to the bands previous 6 records that are still considered the bedrock of Heavy Metal. The answer was a no brainer, when Ozzy left, the band hired one of the greatest Metal singers of all time Ronnie James Dio. The band also decided to go back to Metal, except they updated their sound to suit the times of other British Metal bands that were exploding at the time. The result was the album Heaven & Hell. This record completely rejuvenated the bands career and it is still considered by many to be the greatest Black Sabbath album. The band created one more masterpiece with Mob Rules a year later. I’m more of a Mob Rules fan because I think it’s the best sounding album the band ever made, but Heaven & Hell is an incredible record that stands up as one of the best metal records of the 80’s. I was going to do Neon Knights but I saw that another youtuber released the solo so I figure I would go for my next favourite solo Heaven & Hell. I love how the solo starts with no rhythm guitar, it’s just a slow galloping bass line with the drums. The guitar has a quarter note delay on it which gives it an eerie sound like a slow trodding horse riding in the middle of the night. Tony’s rhythm playing on the early Sabbath records is completely untouchable, but Tony’s lead playing on Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules is the best lead playing he would ever do IMO. I’m sure he realized that Van Halen and Micheal Schenker were raising the bar of what was possible with lead guitar and that he had to step it up in order to compete.
