MITRANO: Validation of civil-military air traffic control cooperation

A real-time simulation at the #EIH EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub – civil & military stakeholders tested integrated traffic management: 8 exercises, 10 use cases, 1 shared simulation platform.

On 7-9 October, the team validated coordination procedures for integrated and collaborative civil- military traffic demand management during the execution phase. Participants included:

➡️ civil air traffic controllers (ATCOs) from PANSA
➡️ military ATCOs and mission controllers from France, Germany and Spain
➡️ EUROCONTROL civ-mil experts
➡️ EIH simulation team
➡️ ATM expert from Airbus
➡️ safety and human performance experts from INTEGRA

The exercise focused on the digital information exchange and tactical coordination procedures for #ATM optimisation for both civil and military needs. It featured:

📌 A single system interface integrating all traffic in a shared airspace via EIH's ESCAPE platform
📌 Real-time trajectory optimisation
📌 Balanced ATCO workload
📌 Mission effectiveness and safety

MITRANO, a SESAR Joint Undertaking project, led by EUROCONTROL, addresses the management of mission trajectories and collaborative decision-making at network level and in ATC operations. It aims to enable a more flexible civil-military cooperation, vital to maximising the use of airspace in the context of the growing air traffic demand & complexity.
