San Diego Flight Instructor Garry Wing, of Fly The Wing Flight Training, discusses and demonstrates the sideslip method of landing in a crosswind. Many pilots are intimidated by crosswinds and avoid them, even when they're within the limit of their airplane. You're uncoordinated during a crosswind landing - which is not the most intuitive thing - but once you grasp the basics they can really take your flying to a higher level as you become able to land the airplane in all kinds of varying wind conditions.
Rule #1 is never let the wheels touch the ground unless the nose is pointed at the far end of the runway. You need the wheels to be going straight when you land in a crosswind, and that is going to require that you keep the upwind wing down, and land on that wheel first, followed by the downwind wheel.
Control effectiveness fades as you decelerate - and the crosswind becomes a bigger component, relative to your groundspeed, at the same time - both requiring increased amounts of aileron (into the wind) and rudder (to keep the nose straight). Fight for centerline all the way down, and don't let your guard down regarding wind correction on rollout or during taxi. The flight's not over until the first beer is in front of you!
