Trains at Preston - 11/03/2017

Filmed on 11/03/2017. The visit to the West Coast Mainline for some action and unusal workings for part of the day and double steam action., welcome to Preston (Season 4 Episode 16).

Steam specials includes 46115 Scots Guardsman working The Midday Scot from Manchester Victoria via Carnforth and Carlisle. Working with assisting locomotive 47580 County Of Essex. As from what we heard, 46115 Scots Guardsman ran out of coal so 47580 had to take the tour back to Edinburgh diesel hauled.

Second rail tour we see is 45690 Leander working The Cumbrian Mountain Steam Express II from Scarborough to Carlisle via Preston and Carnforth. Leander arrived at Preston early and well before the tour was due. The diesel taking the tour was 47237 & 47746. At Preston, 47237 runs light engine to Carlisle where it takes over the tour for the return journey to Scarborough.

Also, there was engineering works taking place resulting in most services which would normally continue to Blackpool North/South terminated at Preston. This explains why there isn't much workings going on throughout the day.

Preston see's a variety of Virgin Trains, Arriva Rail North and First Transpennine Express services heading for a variety of destinations including: York, Hazel Grove, Edinburgh, Glasgow Central, London Euston, Colne, Huddersfield, Manchester Piccadilly, Carlisle, Barrow In Furness & Liverpool Lime Street.
