Explore Sequoia National Park P2: Famous General Sherman Tree and Giant Forest at Sherman Tree Trail

The General Sherman Tree is a giant sequoia tree in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in Tulare County, California. It is estimated to be between 2,300 and 2,700 years old. By volume, it is the largest tree in the world.

We visited the park in summer time, July 2025. We took the main trail off the Wolverton Road down to the tree (0.5 mile). The trail was paved and had a few stairs. As we walked, we entered the Giant Forest sequoia grove. It was in the late afternoon, and the forest was glowing with golden sunlight. Exhibits were along the trail explaining the natural history of giant sequoias. The walk back was uphill.
