Millican Dalton Was born in Nenthead, Cumbria in 1867 and the family moved to London following his fathers death. In 1903 Millican resigned his job as an insurance clerk and followed his heart and became the Professor of Adventure. He spent his time between a cabin in Epping Forest and the Lake District where for the most part he lived in an old Slate mine on the foot of Castle Crag.
Castle Crag is also the home of an Iron aged Hill Fort and we go in search of the remains among the industrial landscape that was the Westmorland Green Slate industry where this valuable commodity was quarried and mined throughout the Borrowdale Valley
