Welcome back to our video series on language structures. I’m Anna DiGilio, and in this video, we will explore using synonyms in the classroom to strengthen semantics. If you have not watched my video, “Understanding Semantics,” be sure to hop back to that video and watch it first. It lays the foundation necessary to dive into these videos that focus on individual activities. Let’s get to it!
Today, we're diving into the wonderful world of words. Specifically, we're talking about why it's super important to teach students explicitly about synonyms. Let's jump right in!
The importance of synonyms extends beyond writing; Understanding synonyms enhances reading comprehension, too. When students encounter new words in texts, knowing synonyms can help them infer the meanings of those words, which boosts their overall understanding of what they are reading.
If you're looking for a comprehensive, explicit and systematic literacy curriculum that addresses not just Language Structures, but all strands of Scarborough's Reading Rope, I urge you to check out Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E for grades K-4.
Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. is a tier 1 program with tier 2 support and is aligned to the Science of Reading Research. You can learn more by going to www.structuredliteracy.com
