Welcome to Outdoors with Geoff! Come with me as I grill two 1855 Black Angus Beef Thick Cut New York Strip Steaks on the @Char-Griller Auto Kamado. I started by adding The Good Charcoal to the fire basket and using one firestarter to light the stack of lump for five minutes. I then added a few chunks of Pecan Wood for smoke and opened the fan door, closed the lid and set the unit for 500 degrees.
I rubbed all sides of the straks with Avocado Oil and seasoned them with the items listed below.
• @HeathRilesBBQ Garlic Jalapeno Rub
• Cattleman's Grill California Try Tip Seasoning
I let the strip steaks rest for fifteen minutes and inserted my @Themeatstick X Probe to keep an eye on this cook and provide some great temperature accuracy. I then placed the steaks on the Akorn and let them cook for 8 minutes total, doing a quarter turn after two minutes, and flipping over and repeating on the other side. The MeatStick alerted me at about seven and a half minutes that we were approaching 135 degrees and I took the steaks off to rest for about ten minutes.
These 1855 Strips were full of flavor was full of flavor. Make no mistake about it, the true flavor of the beef was the star of this cook. The California Tri Tip Seasoning added some hearty steak notes and the Garlic Jalapeño gave the overall cook a little heat and kick. The @Char-Griller Auto Kamado did a great job on this run holding at 500 degrees and The MeatStick X made sure we came in right on temp and this meat was tender and moist! A great cook overall.
