I this video I go over an unexpected repair (I guess that is always the case with most repairs isn’t it?) for our 2014 Tundra with the 4.0, rear wheel dr. It took me almost two hours replacing the part. Use WD40 before starting all of this work, lubricating all bolts and joints may be one or two days before.
1) Start by removing the high and low pressure hoses from the rack and pinion, drain oil in container
2) Remove the outer tie rods from the wheel hub 19 mm.
Then I removed lower steering shaft bolt and bracket. Use a flat screw driver to wiggle it up. This is after I removed the long 17mm bolts holding the rack and pinion to the sub frame. This gave me a space I need to release the rack and pinion from the lower steering shaft.
Note:
If you are planning on doing this work alone, please follow all safety procedures, which I have not explained in the video like using jack stands and making sure car is well mounted, wearing glasses, and gloves. I took for granted that all of you watching the video are knowledgeable of mechanic work or have some knowledge of doing mechanic work.
