A colorful spectrum of Austrian and international 19th-century painting will be presented at the auction on 22 October 2025 at Dorotheum.
One of the highlights is a restituted late work by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, once hidden in the salt mines and recovered by the U.S. “Monuments Men” (€400,000 – 600,000). Another centerpiece is a portrait by the Philippine painter Juan Luna y Novicio, depicting a Manola draped in the characteristic mantón de Manila (€ 100,000 – 150,000). Further works include a dynamic portrayal of the legendary Don Cossacks by Józef von Brandt (€ 150,000 –220,000) as well as a rediscovered painting from the “month-cycle” by Austrian artist Olga Wisinger-Florian (€ 60,000 – 90,000). Together, these works open up a panorama of artistic achievements in which stories of resilience, cultural identity, and innovation come to life — an opportunity to rediscover the full diversity of the 19th century.
The Auction of Furniture, Antiques, Glass, and Porcelain on 21 October 2025 features, among its highlights, a significant Neoclassical commode after a design by Pietro Castelli (attrib., €50,000 – 70,000), a monumental krater vase from the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory painted by Joseph Nigg (€80,000 – 120,000), and three element vases from Meissen (€48,000 – 60,000).
