This time we'll dive into the Olympia GM8426, a camera that's been dubbed a "scamera" and a "trashcam" by photo enthusiasts on the web. Released sometime in the 1980s and 1990s by the elusive New Taiwan Photographic Corp (also known as Ouyama), this camera is part of a peculiar wave of cheap cameras known for their suspect names (I have one that straight up has a Canon plaque on the top).
There are many features making the GM8426 so unique—from its mystery "somewhere between 1/100 to 1/200 shutter speed" to the surprising additions like a self-timer delaying anywhere from 5 up to 11 seconds, and the not-so-effective red-eye reduction light. I'll also guide you through loading film and getting ready to shoot. If you're curious about vintage cameras, watch the full video to see the Olympia GM8426 in action and decide for yourself if it's a hidden gem or just a piece of camera history!
