HE WAS THE 5TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE THIRD TO DIE ON THE FOURTH OF JULY.

Last week I returned to Hollywood Cemetery, in Richmond, Virginia and visited the Grave of the 10th President, John Tyler. This week I have walked just a few yards from President Tyler's Grave to the Unique Birdcage Tomb of our 5t President James Monroe. Four of the first 5 Presidents were Virginian’s, Only the second President John Adams was not from Virginia. Monroe's Presidency is noted for the westward expansion into the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase and for the Monroe Doctrine which is the corner stone of American Foreign Policy. In addition to being President He was also a two Governor of Virginia and a member of the Virginia Legislature. It should be noted that 3 of the First 5 Presidents died on the 4th Of July. Presidents Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on July 4, 1826, and President Monroe died 5 years later on July 4, 1831. He was originally buried in New York City’s Marble Cemetery before being moved to President’s Circle here in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.
