A lecture as part of the Individualisation Symposium 2025.
Michael H. Goldstein is Professor of Developmental Psychobiology in the Department of Psychology at Cornell University, where he studies how infants learn to speak using studies of songbirds and humans. Using a unique comparative approach, he investigates which social interactions between caregivers and offspring shape language acquisition. In this way, he improves our understanding of how communication and language develop and what social and cognitive forces underlie this.
The fourth Individualisation Symposium, organized by the Joint Institute for Individualisation in a Changing Environment (JICE), the collaborative research project InChangE, and the Transregional Collaborative Research Center 212, will this time focus on life transitions. At its core is the question of how individuals — both humans and animals — experience and navigate biological, psychological, and social turning points.
